We need to take it back to a simple mindset. K.I.S.S. I need to keep it real with myself, be responsible, be caring and hone in and really focus and work on music. 2keepitG. I've learned that it is essential to be a Gentleman in a classic way. Its all about showing and giving respect to the people who deserve it. You have to earn your keep out here. We need to build... At this point in my life the foundation has already been laid. Now its time to build... 1 brick at a time. 1 goal at a time. 1 day at a time. I'm at JFK airport doing an overnight shift and the realness is here. So open up your heart and shut down your mind. Don't Think Just Flow... BREAK OUT THE BOX... Cut out all the bullshit, Cut out all of the distractions, and just focus on whats important. Focus on your family, your finances, and your passion. Let it shine through to the universe. Do what you love and love what you do. Lets set these daily goals and knock them down. step by step. Life is for living. So it live it upnup. Recognize that the time is NOW. The most important person or thing is who or what you are sharing the present moment with. And the most important thing you can do here is care. And at that old sport... take it easy and have fun listening to a song my lil cousin Ricki B, my little sister Eliana, and myself Timmy Tortuga made. Life touches all different spectrums of the human emotion. Last night was a dark time for me. I questioned why am I working the job I am... "Is the phsyical work that I'm putting in right now worth it?" Throwing bags was taking the soul out of me to the point where I wanted to get fired or quit on the spot. But now sitting here after getting out of a hot shower with a decent amount of money to my name, plus I'm about to whip up an awesome breakfast, life doesn't feel as shitty as it was 13 hours ago. The point I'm trying to make is that life is a double edge sword and that sword will slice you deep from time to time right in your achilleas tendon. And your going to want to fall to the ground because the pain is unbearable. But if you can stand strong and fight through the pain just a little bit longer and keep walking inching forward, there is heaven near by. You got to go through hell to get there and there is no way around it. A wise woman reminds me everyday that happiness is not the absence of problems but your ability to deal with them. So keep fighting the good fight and when it gets hard and you want to fall victim DON'T! Push yourself to new limits everyday fuckin day and just remember... "This too shall pass."
I've learned that getting into the flow of things isn't easy. And again, sometimes you want to quit because your just not feeling it. Your heart's not in it, your body isn't quite up to the challenge, and your mind wants to be somewhere else. But my friend just know you have to stick to it. Because once you push past the intial doubting, the intial laziness, and the fear there will be flow... Little by little... day by day... Brick by Brick there will be measurable progress. So envision your goals. Wake up with that vision in the forefront of your brain. Go throughout your day with that vision guiding you. Only then will you realize what is truly important and dear to you. You are going to have to slow down and say no to things that might hurt at that moment.
That's sacrifice. Stay true to your vision across the board. Be selfish when need be. Be an asshole when need be. Be aggressive when need be. But always love. Be compassionate with yourself and others. Its okay to be peaceful and enjoy that space. Its okay. And remember my friend, there is always something to learn. Never believe you know it all because there is always something learn. The God, my everyday inspiration to be disciplined, strong minded and strong hearted... My inspiration to stay away from easy... One of the most inspirational human beings to grace this planet... Through his actions, thoughts, and philosophies he moved mountains and changed the game... I love you Bruce... May you Rest In Peace and thank you for the Godly effect you had on all of us BRUCE LEE XianTerracotta Warriors Shoutout to my Aunt Marilyn for the pictures and the inspiration ... MAN OF THE YEARAndy H. Ahhhh Andy H… This man and I used to smoke L after L after L in the parking lot of Daisy Ct. with no purpose in life but to have fun and chill out. Great Times. But as we grew through our early twenties things slowly changed…. I moved to the Lower East Side of Manhattan and Andy and his newly formed collective, Young Live Niggas, were murdering the scene at Ikon. While this was going on he was working on his own musical project; deemed Surburban Gangster. The name itself reeked the stench of a Legend. But as life had it the project never fully materialized and that was the end of that. Now during this time of high flying and murdering the scene Andrew met a girl who, little that we knew, would change his life forever. When I had first seen Steph and Andrew together I knew off the bat that she had a special kind of vibe towards him. And though Andy isn't the type to show it all the way at first I knew he also felt the same. Now at this time Steph lived all the way in North Jersey… across the river from Manhattan. Sayreville was about 45 minutes away (30 minutes the way Andrew drives). But faithfully he would go out there to see her. I remember once I took the $3 bus to go to Steph's house to chill with Andy. Her neighborhood is beautifully scenic! Down the street from her spot was an amazing view of the NYC skyline. A perfect baby making setting hahahaha. Soooo fast forward about a year into their relationship and I get a call from Andy. At the time i was a couple months into a job at Walgreens. So I pick up the phone and Andrew says it. Him and Steph are expecting a child! And I'm just really happy man. Happy for Andrew. We've been through a lot in a short time. So to see him thrive is an amazing feeling. The timing, the woman, the situation, everything just felt right. Andrew needed this in his life. He would always talk about having a family and how his son is going to grow to be a football star so it was only right this is happening. Bless Up. The wheels were already turning so its like when he met Steph the stars started to align. Now BOOM BAM! Mind set change and we're dealing with a whole different Andy, responsibility wise. PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND!!! NEW MINDSET ALERT!!!!! LETS GET THIS MONEY!!!!! Now he's going from throwing parties in crib to providing for the little man in IT. Its crunch time. Get your mind right Andy! And that's exactly what he did. Over the 9 months of Steph's pregnancy Andrew had no other choice but to grow into a fully responsible provider. Now fast forward…….. The baby shower is here. Andrew is on his fly father fit. The food is great. Andrew's pops is on the 1s and 2s. Its a party…. The gifts are pouring and you can feel it… someone really special is about to grace this world. So a couple months later Cam is born!!!!! HE'S HERE!!!!!! Myself and Brian J. Roberts get a call from Andy that we're clear to come and visit the new born King. Brian and I pull up to the hospital, get our passes, get in that elevator, find the room and there they are… The Hendricks Family …. Steph was exhausted in the hospital bed and Andrew was holding his new born son in his arms. I'm in pure amazement… Like this just actually happened…. You know and i'm just really happy that he came out perfectly healthy and that Steph is doing okay after this miracle. What a beautiful thing. Sometimes life forces you to change without notice, without thought, and without sympathy. And you have to just simply go with it. And my friends, that's where Andrew Hendricks thrives. My brother… You are a very successful man. One who can hold down a household. One who provides for your son and your woman. One who shows them love, care, and affection. And especially 1 who DID NOT PLAY HIMSELF! You have made us all so proud and inspired us to the next level. And this, my brother, is what makes you The Man of the Year. WOMAN OF THE YEARSteph Rod The epitome of swagger. The creator of MomsGlamCam. She's young and in charge. She went through one of the toughest journeys that life has to pitch and she succeeded safely with an amazingly wonderful son. I remember seeing her a couple days after Cameron was born and she was just exhausted from the whole pregnancy… and its like wow we're here 2 years later and I go back home to the Hendricks' house and see Cam walking, talking, dabbing, showing off his muscles, and dunking the ball into his 2 foot hoop. He's communicating in his own way and its like wow. Andy and Steph and the whole family are doing an AMAZING job of raising him and they're such a dope family. A couple months back when I was chilling at the Hendicks' residence, Steph had left to go to the mall and as soon as she stepped out the door and Cam had realized she left he started bawling. And thats truly a sign of how much love and tender care she gives him. And thats a testament to the bond they share. Steph is doing a wonderful job of balancing her own life with raising an almost 2 year old son. Its really amazing and while doing that she has her own blog called MomsGlamCam.com where she gives you an peek into the life of Steph, Cam, and Andy. It beautifully documents their life and outlines her own fashion sense at the same time. She's an inspiration to many people because of her journey and how's she has handled the situation with grace, determination, and focus. She's a young mother with a professional mentality. SHE'S ON THE UP AND UP!!!! Blessings for Steph for being the Woman of the Year in my book. Once again to gain more insight to her lifestyle check her out at www.momsglamcam.com BRIAN J. ROBERTS AWARDBrian J. Roberts THE MAN THE LEGEND THE MYTH… Mr. Brian J. Roberts. He had such a great year we had to give him his own award and going forward any other contributors to our lives that reach the level the Brian has reached this year will receive this honorary award. Now let's take it back to beginning…. My 1st BJR was in Sayreville Middle School. Before school started everyone would hand out in the front courtyard to chop it up. One day, while I was on my Tiente flow (that was my 2nd rap name loll), myself and a couple other kids were in a freestyle cypher. I was in 8th grade and Brian was in 7th. He was chiming into the cypher and afterwards he approached me like "yooo that was dope man" So we dapped it up, I thanked him for the appreciation and kept it moving. Now high school comes along and I'm working on my craft as a rapper, trying to become the best. Its my sophomore year now and the talent show is here. So I hit up a great friend of mine who goes by the name of Joseph Cintron, and I invite him to sing the hook off of a song from my first mixtape. And guess who else is on this year's bill??? The young poet himself. 13 year old Brian J. So as I'm waiting to go on I'm watching Brian's performance and he absolutely murders the stage. Even at such a young age you can see the greatness he has for communication in his poetry. Every word is pronounced perfectly with an earthshaking purpose in every sentence. The crowd is solely focused on him. So after that I'm thinking I have to become friends with this guy… he's too good at what he does. But you know everything just happened naturally which is the best way. So the upcoming summer I ended up working with Brian at a Local Call Center in Sayreville where we scammed people over the phone for 7 dollars an hour lolllll. That whole summer and fall season Brian and I worked here. Even at that time, when Brian was only 14, they had him doing the big cash business calls. At such a young age he was on the phone with full fledge businesses trying to get their money! Brian isn't a fluke… he's been doing this for way too long. But during that time period we become friends, mostly through fucking around at the job and making prank phone calls when the bosses weren't there. Great times!! Okay so now let's fast forward to 2015 - 2016 because I could write a whole book on everything Brian and I have been through so far. I actually had to cut out a couple things to keep this simple but on to it… So in the beginning of 2015 BJR grossed $22,000 off novelty grills!!! 22 fucking K off grills!!! Who would have thought. This man's specialty is communication but yet he's making bank off grills!! That's just a living testament to when there is a will there is a way and right now nothing can stop BJR. He's living in a beautiful townhouse because of his ability to take action and follow up. He's able to not have to work a regular job and still pay the bills because of his hunger for being successful. Believe me I've heard many people laugh at Brian and think that he is a joke and someone who just hops from one quick buck to the next. But my friends you cannot deny the reality of his situation. He's about to invest in his own house off of the moves he made in the last year and he's only 24!! A home owner at 24! That's called Success. The success of his company called Refinement allotted him the time to pursue his first passion which is writing. In the last year his articles have been featured in Forbes, Times, Business Insider, Huffington Post, Home News Tribune, and MyCentralJersey. He has interviewed countless entrepreneurs, millionaires, and influential trend setters. From DJ Khaled to Nagel the local hot dog vendor, he's reaching out to everyone. It doesn't matter who you are, or where you from, or how you look… As long as you have a great story that can inspire the people BJR will find you and will deliver your story to the masses. To wrap it up I just want to say as my brother from another mother you've inspired me to a whole different level. You've inspired me to wake up early get the ball rolling asap. You've inspired me to not waste time, buckle down, and go 110% with my music career. And I appreciate you for calling me on daily to keep me on track with the stories of your journey to supreme success. Its amazing to see you realize your dreams and its going to be even better when we realize our goals together and tour the world off of a great album. The World is Going to Know who Brian J. Roberts is. BELIEVE THAT clutch manJonathan Santana To be clutch is Kobe in the 4th, Jeter up to bat with the World Series at stake. Jonathan is that and more. From coming through in the clutch with capital for studio time to turning up, front row, at every single HIGH2U2 performance. You demand it and he shall supply it. So when there's 3 seconds left on the clock in the final moments of the game, who are we swinging the rock to?? You fucking know it! MR. SANTANA!! And with that said a lot of people don't see the sacrifice this man puts in for his Grandmother. To take care of her singlehandedly for as long as I've known and before that is an amazing life long deed. It takes a patient and selfless soul to be the primary caretaker of your Grandma. And it is the sacrifices behind the scenes that the people don't witness that truly makes Jonathan The Clutch Man of the Year in our book. Not only to his best friends but to his loving Grandmother. Salute my friend…. Salute. JASMINE A. DIAZ AWARD"The Jasmine Touch" She is a delicate creative who pays attention to the smallest details. Her ideas are heartfelt and personal just like her. You have to spend time with Jas to appreciate and understand her perspective on life because you won't get it easily. But through her art and care you will be able to witness and feel it. Jas will go the extra mile to make sure you feel like its your birthday... on your birthday because these days we sometimes let our birthdays pass by like its nothing to celebrate. She'll bake you a delicious cake, make you a fruit infused alcoholic beverage, and throw you a party, all in one hour! That's just the type of selfless soul she is. Everything she dives into has her touch of love and precision. She's on point. She has adapted to become the sister and daughter who the household can count on and this is far from an easy lifestyle that deserves recognition. When we were children no one could tell Jas what to do. I remember when she came out to Sayreville, New Jersey to stay at my house for the week and we were in the parking lot of the local shoprite and it seemed like she just inhaled a container of pure himalayan sugar cause she just started jumping all over the place and my father grabbed her to try to contain her and she just threw herself on the ground…. straight dead bodyweight lolllll. I dont know if she was excited to be in Jersey or what but she let out a raw surge of energy in that parking lot. And that is Jasmine. Raw Passion. She's an extremely passionate and loving individual. She spread that passion to many people including her little brother John Diaz, molding him to the feisty individual he is today. These days when I spend time with Jas I feel the aura of growth and maturity and the fact that she is on her A game right now. Shes putting in that extra credit right now! Jasmine is a perfect example that no matter what you've been through and no matter how tough things can get that you can rise up like a Phoenix and will yourself to new heights on a daily basis. So for that I say stay passionate, stay focused, be you and keep climbing and never look back. I have a feeling we are all about to take our game to a new level and your going to be the mother of the revolution! COMPANY ON THE RISEMary Jane Ash... The come up is truly real my friends. Ashley is a ultralight beam that shows us if you stick to something that you can be the best in the world at, surround yourself with the right people, and enjoy your own company you can be happy and financially successful in harmony. BLESS UP and take time to give thanks. So about a week ago I visited my good friend Dominic Vinas (Man of the Year 2013) aka Vinny in El Paso, Texas.
El Paso is a whole different ball game. Coming from the East Coast my mind was blown by being out there. The scenery is different. Its mostly mountains and sand all around. The music is country, the cars are American Muscle, and the women are beautiful. The steak is immaculate. We went a ranch called Cattleman's which was hands down the best steak I've ever tasted. Rudy's smoked brisket sandwich is banging too. It's all about Straw Hats, Great Food, and Two Stepping out here in El Paso. When I go on vacation I get so submerged in wherever I'm at that I become one with the environment. With the culture, the food, the weather, and the people. El Paso's an amazingly different place compared to the Lower East Side of Manhattan and the East coast in general. Shoutout to that fully loaded baked potato we had with our steaks. Shoutout to sunsets on Scenic Drive. It was new for me to see as far as the eye can go. There was a certain kind of sereneness in that. Shoutout to the Daisy Dukes. Shoutout to the Cowboys. And most importantly shout out to Vinny. One more year left in Fort Bliss, El Paso and then he's back home to New York. Once again my friends, keep an open mind, stay humble, and never give up! Sincerely, Timmy Tortuga here's a little country song for y'all So I was at the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe this past Monday for their open mic. Its been awhile since I performed so I had to jump at the opportunity when it came my way. So how it works is like first come first serve. The earlier you get on line the earlier you perform. I was a little late on my timing getting to the Nuyorican so I ended up performing 34th loll. But I think that was the best thing that could have happened because I got the oppurtunity to watch 33 other artist express themselves and also a poet named Danny who performed after me. Let me tell you, there was a lot of talent up there. Some good poets, a cool kid who rapped off the top of his head, there was like this clan of female poets that came strong. They came for blood loll. They had like 5 poets perform and each artist had there own unique performance. It was great. So its like an hour and a half into the performances and here comes this girl who I swore I knew. She gets up on stage with this dude and during my time their there wasn't a lot of duos performing so this was something new. The dude was beatboxing and the girl, who's name is Wallette, was singing. Off the bat I was already excited for their performance because they were covering a song that Frank Sinatra also made an insanely famous cover of. So the beatbox starts up and she's just playing those pipes and I'm just like dammmm she could really sing. I didn't expect her to have such a beautiful and powerful voice. Like Wallette can really sing. I mean you can hear it in the vid but being there in person and not expecting it is a whole different feeling. So shoutout to Wallette. We definitely need to collaborate and create something amazing.
The vid up top is off her youtube and its from this past Monday at the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe. Check Her Out - Tim T. Theatrical Release
July 24th in the IFC Center on West 4th St, NYC. & on July 31st in Arena Cinema in Hollywood, LA. The energy was amazing The set was perfectly lined up BIGG$ lit the torch on fire & HIGH2U2 ran with it. By the last song of the set, which was topped off by Gun Talk, ganja was in the air, all eyes were on John & Rah, and everybody was drenched in sweat. Shout out to DIE. He's a very unique artist. He had that all in one type of performance. He had his Akai performance controller and a Dell laptop sitting on one of those foldable tables that you would have at a baby shower in the convention room of ya projects. He had the mic positioned so he can manipulate his sounds, control his computer, and sing at the same damm time. And he had to fight through a challenge too; thats why his set was that much more real. When it was his time to perform the crowd had evaporated into thin air. Everyone had went outside to cyph. It seemed like he was agitated by the fact that even the host of the event had went outside. But as they say 'The Show Must Go On'. After a couple attempts to get his system running correctly, the music started to play. His vocals had a touch a reverb to give it that vibe he needed. The first song starts to play and word spreads to the cyphers outside. . . "DIE's performing". . . as he goes through his first cut the room slowly starts to fill, group by group, people start coming back into the performance area. By this time DIE is deep into his first song and I'm just there, front row, left corner sitting on the speaker. I could feel the bass vibrate throughout my body and the dopeness is filling up the room. Everybody here knows that this is something special. The song is building up and really, the sounds he created are killer, great shit forreal and then when it feels like the beat is about to drop into to something from depths of hell he cuts the music off. In my head I'm like what the fuck? It really sounded like an epic drop was on its way from Saturn and then I had to say it from the first row, left corner of the crowd, Where's the drop? He looks at me and quickly says "Sometimes I don't do drops" . . . wtf??? and then he gets back to his set, plays the next song. All I can tell you is what an epic fucking night at The Trash Bar.
Shoutout to everyone who came and did there thing. Harlem, The Lower, Brooklyn, Bronx, was in the building. It was an epic night for New York City. keep the positivity flowing - TIMT.ME check out DIE @ dieclv.com
So my cousin John meet this dude, James, at the Victoria Film Festival in Southern Texas this past March. He was reading a script with John and a whole cast of actors who were bought together by Anthony Pedone, the curator of the Victoria Film Festival. They were reading for a movie based in Victoria, Texas that Anthony is directing. During the time they spent together James handed John a copy of his group's work called Even Though EP.
So the other day while I was eating a ham, salami, and provolone cheese sandwich with a side of Limon Lays chips, AIA.J's EP started to play on iTunes. I've listened to AIA's work 2 times before and I vibed with what I heard. At this specific time, on this specific day I felt like I really connected with the spoken word intro backed by nothing but a piano. At this point I felt like I understood the journey which they were about to take us on through the EP. It takes time to get to know a musical project and to truly understand where the artist is coming from. Most of the time this understanding comes at a very unexpected time. AIA's production has a handcrafted feel to it. Simple with emotion that is cohesive with the vocals. The lyrics feel authentic, you know that straight from the heart kinda feel. There's definitely a message being sung in this EP and Even Though it took me months to empathize with it, I finally get it and I'm 100% supportive of it. Vibe out with AIA.J - Tim T. (side note) my favorite song so far is Crash Not just this song is dedicated to my mother but my whole life is dedicated to Lillian Padilla Torres. I'm on an everlasting journey to find the words to describe how appreciative I am for what you have done. I just want to say we love you and we miss you.
May you forever rest in peace and Happy Mother's Day to you up in heaven. - Timothy Raul Torres its 332am just gotta out of work about to go back to work at 1030am and come out at like 130am lol gotta do what we gotta do to get where we gotta get
hard work over talent no doubts no worries just having fun ya dig HIGH2U2 had a great performance last night at Otto's Shrunken Head The vibe was great, the songs they performed were bangers It was a blessing to perform up there with them and I'm very thankful for the opportunity Shout out to Chris Kenneally for giving us an opening slot for his band Shout out to everyone who came and showed support Shout out to lifeeee lol Goodnight ;) - tim t ps shout out to Mr Cintron' for supplying the footage |
